The second week of our stay in the US was planned to be at a nice house in Corolla, Outer Banks - North Carolina. This is a tradition from our American relatives and we got the opportunity to come along. This ment so much to us and we could never have done this by our self.
A typical house at the beach
I think this picture above will tell the story pretty well. In the end it's about the beach and all the nice houses laying close to it. For you who read this and never heard of the Outer Banks, it's a small island laying outside of Virginia and North Carolina. We are staying very close to Corolla and all the house is very close to the beach but the moast expensive have the see view.
This is our house. It got three floors and plenty of room for all 11 + 2 kids. We only have 200m to the beach but we have probably 4 houses that are closer so the "garden" is rather small.
All the houses are in the same style with several floors and balkonys around it. Quite nice.
A lot of the houses also have a pool in the back yard so you can relax after the beach and cool down a little. Ours house also had a hot tub with bubbles. So nice to use when it's dark and you get a little frozen. It's rather warm here. Never gets below 28 at night and some days we had close to 40. The Airconditioner is a must.
The beach is the main thing. There is this walks that will take you over the dunes and you are not supposed to climb the dunes.
The north part of the Island is a reservatory for the wild horses. They came with a Spanish boat a very long time ago that wrecked outside the Island and the horses swimmed to rescue them self to this Island. This part is now divided by a fence and you can go and see them.
You are only allowed to go there by a 4x4 and its far up the coast. I tried to drive as far as I was allowed and then walk with the camera on my back. It was almost 40° and I was out there for a couple of hours but i did not see them. The Pelicans was the only wildlife I could see. 😥 I was totally exhausted after this walk and barely made it back to my car.
The day after we went with the other 4x4 cars and I went for an other walk. Still the same issue. No wild horses for me...but a lot of sun.
I was trying to track them and here is some proof for there existans.
Another thing that is famus for this Island is the lighthous.
But the beach is the main thing and the sand and the Atlantic is so nice.

The Navy is checking the coastline every now and then.
Fishing is an other activity that is popular.
The weather is shifting and we have had some rain but just short period and befor you know it the sun is back
There is also a huge forest connected to the wild horses beach. They probably stays in here for the shade and water and here is a rich wildlife. In the forest it's even hotter and a lot of birds and insects. A nice walk but 40°C makes it hard and the humidity is incredible. It is so much hard to keep up with that then you think and you have to drink a lot.
On the west side we have the sunset and on the east side we have the sun and moon rise.
Some thunder and lightning is alwas cool to try to catch. Not so easy.
Tomorow we are continue our trip to Washington. More pictures and srories to come.
